The way to teach the 10 Commandments today! Maybe then people would "get it" and it wouldn't be construed as 'religious ed'.

Tennessee Ten Commandments

Some people in the South have trouble with all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the Ten commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms. So, some folks in middle Tennessee got together and translated the "King James" into "Jackson County" language.... no joke , read on...

The Hillbilly's Ten Commandments (posted on the wall at Cross Trails Church in Gainesboro , TN.)

(1) Just one God
(2) Honor yer Ma &Pa
(3) No tellin' tales or gossipin'
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Put nothin' before God
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal
(7) No killin'
(8) Watch yer mouth
(9) Don't take what ain't yers
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think? Y'all have a nice day.!

I reckon thats simple enough to understand... smile.gif

I like having just TWO with a consequence for all though ...

1. love and be honest with anyone as you are with yourself

2. don't do anything to anyone you would not want done to yourself cool.gif

And the consequence, if anyone breaks those two commandments over you, then give em back double what they gave you! ph34r.gif

Sounds good to me. Short, sweet, and right to the point.

Number 5 sounds more like not to profane the self ...as the word profane is derived from a very early word which has two words that made up that word 'before and temple' (pro + fanum). It was written that way in Hebrew and Greek scripts in particualar the 10 Commandments ....it was meant 'Thou shalt not profane the name of the Lord thy God neither shall ye say Aleph Lamed (EL) nor Aleph Daleth (Adonia)' and then claim to profess in the belief of the covenant, a promise of adherence to the 10 commandments but break any of them. In other words , don't swear by any god and break those commandments as that would be profaning not just yourself but the very existence of the self! cool.gif
